Social Ads, Social Graphs and I’m All A Twitter

SocialAds

I thought I was excited just to attend ad:tech New York in 2 weeks, but now I’m looking forward to hearing more about what Facebook’s SocialAds are all about. I can’t wait to see how this company will mine their data for targeting and/or offer consumers’ a way to be involved in advertising.

I asked Matt Cohler for an invitation to the event, but it’s only for their paying ad partners. That’s fair. And the speed of Internet communications will give us blow by blow details anyway.

Social Graphs - the other social concept that Facebook is promoting — the idea being that all the people you know create a “footprint” that can be visualized and managed.  I would like to combine three key attributes of various social networks to create my perfect “social graph:

1)  An interactive 3 dimensional visualization (see above) of all my contacts a la Spoke Software. I like to SEE who I’m in contact with most/least and Spoke pioneered that by slurping up not just your contacts, but your email, where they apply a frequency and recency algorithm to show not only with whom you communicate often, but over time, which relationships remain strong.  I LOVE this feature. LinkedIn needs this.

2) The ability to upload your Apple address book and Outlook contacts so you don’t have to personally invite friends to connect. LinkedIn does this for Outlook as well as web mail programs. Facebook only does webmail.

3) The personalized nature of the Facebook updates system is brilliant. It allows your persona to come to life for your contacts.

4) Bonus wish - the ability to export updated information back into your Apple address book and Outlook contacts so you  can sync between them and then have that sync to your iPhone.

I want one place that has all my 10,000+ contacts, completely up to date, with 3D visualization of my friends and associates that can sync to my iPhone and has “personality” attributes I can control.  All the technology is available, in various places.  How can I have this perfect combo and does that sound good to you?
